This exam is administered by the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons. It tests your knowledge of state-specific real estate laws, national real estate practices, contracts, financing, and ethics.
- Exam format: Multiple-choice.
- Duration: 4 hours (Salesperson: 4 hours; Broker: 4 hours).
- Eligibility: Completion of required pre-licensing education (40 hours for Salesperson, 40 additional hours for Broker) and authorization to test.

Massachusetts Real Estate Exam FAQs
How many questions are on the exam?
There are between 100-120 questions, depending on which exam you are taking. For specific exam content, refer to the candidate information bulletin.
What score is required to pass?
You need to score a minimum of 70% to pass. Your score will be displayed on screen at the end of the examination and score reports will be emailed to you.

How long are my scores valid?
- Licenses are valid for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 years.
- The issue date is the date the candidate passed their examination.
- The expiration date is the candidate’s date of birth.
- For example, if the license is issued on March 15, 2019, and the candidate’s birth date is April 1, the license will expire on April 1, 2021.
